Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the clinical care delivered to residents, ensuring adherence to evidence-based protocols and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and monitor individualized resident care plans.
  • Promote a culture focused on quality care, resident safety, and satisfaction within the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations, including CMS and Department of Health standards.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, such as reducing readmissions, managing medications effectively, and enhancing infection control.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to medical and nursing staff on best practices, regulatory requirements, and new healthcare developments.
  • Serve as the clinical liaison among the facility, hospital systems, and community providers while maintaining clear communication with families and staff.
  • Participate in utilization review and cost management processes, optimizing resource use and reimbursement while reducing unnecessary medical costs.

Must-Have Skills:

  • MD or DO with active, unrestricted medical license in Kentucky.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Geriatrics (preferred).
  • Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings.
  • Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, guidelines, and reimbursement structures.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a commitment to quality improvement and patient outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and medical software.
  • Successful completion of a 90-day training period under a State CMO's oversight.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Board certification in Geriatrics.
  • Experience mentoring healthcare providers and supporting staff development.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and evidence-based psychotherapeutic modalities.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a strong patient-centered care philosophy.
  • Experience preparing for and participating in regulatory surveys and audits.
